        "content": "<p>New Delhi (ANTARA) - The foreign ministers of the BRICS countries\nhave called for an increased role for women in international\norganisations and highlighted the fact that no woman has ever served as\nthe United Nations Secretary-General, according to a statement released\non Friday after the summit in New Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the process of selecting the next UN Secretary-General, the\nministers noted that only one citizen of Latin America and the Caribbean\nhas ever held the position, and that no woman has ever been elected,\u201d\nthe statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The top diplomats of BRICS also called for fair geographical\nrepresentation in the UN Secretariat and other international\norganisations, as well as increased participation of women, especially\nfrom developing countries, at all levels of leadership.<\/p>\n<p>BRICS is an intergovernmental group formed in 2006 by Russia, China,\nIndia and Brazil, with South Africa joining in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Five additional countries joined BRICS at the beginning of 2024,\nnamely Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi\nArabia.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia will then become the 11th member to join BRICS in 2025.\nThis year, India holds the BRICS presidency.<\/p>\n<p>Source: Sputnik\/RIA Novosti<\/p>",
