Bribery case closed<\/p>\n
The Jakarta High Court has decided to close the bribery case
\ninvolving Supreme Court Justice Supraptini Sutarto and former
\nSupreme Court Justices M. Yahya Harahap and Marnis Kahar.<\/p>\n
The three justices were reported by Endin Wahyudin, a middle
\nman, who said that he had bribed the judges to rule in his favor
\nin a land dispute in West Java. He claimed he paid them a total
\nof Rp 196 million.<\/p>\n
Supraptini and Marnis were then tried at the Central Jakarta
\nDistrict Court, but the court suspended the case due to a legal
\ntechnicality. The West Jakarta District Court also cited a
\nsimilar reason for suspending the bribery case of Harahap.<\/p>\n
But Endin was sentenced by the Central Jakarta District Court
\nto three months in prison for defaming the judges.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors who handled the cases of Supraptini, Marnis and
\nHarahap appealed to the high court.<\/p>\n
But high court Judges Jusnia Supranoto, Ignatius Subianto and
\nHartomo, decided to close the case of Supraptini and Marnis on
\nthe grounds that Endin did not appeal the verdict.<\/p>\n
\"It could be interpreted that there was no bribery involving
\nthe judges as he had only defamed them,\" according to the
\ndecision.<\/p>\n
High court Judges Suhardi H., Hartati and I Gusti Ngurah
\nSuparka, ruled that the case of Harahap could not be reopened
\nbecause \"the indictment did not mention the name of Endin
\nWahyudin, who reported the case.\"<\/p>\n
The high court decisions, which were made public on Wednesday
\nby high court spokesman Agustinus Hutahuruk were issued earlier
