        "content": "<p>&apos;BRI skips proper lending procedures&apos;<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: A suspect in the Rp 180 billion (US$19 million) Bank<br>\nBRI scam, Yudi Kartolo, said on Thursday that bank managers<br>\nfailed to conduct either a suitability or feasibility test before<br>\ngranting him a loan.<\/p>\n<p>He said although he knew the procedures applied were improper,<br>\nhe nevertheless accepted the loan.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I just trusted the middleman who set up the meeting between<br>\nme and the bank,&quot; he told the Central Jakarta District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Yudi was a commissioner of PT Delta Makmur Ekspresindo (DME),<br>\nand is accused of falsifying documents to swindle money from two<br>\nBRI branches, one in Segitiga Senen and the other in Pasar Tanah<br>\nAbang, both in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The money was taken from pension fund deposits made by the<br>\nstate seaport and dredging companies, Ministry of Agriculture and<br>\nthe East Kalimantan Provincial Bank (BPD). -- JP<\/p>",
