BRI rejects coins<\/p>\n

On Sept. 8, 1995, I wanted to deposit money in the Cidodol
\nbranch of BRI in South Jakarta. I had Rp 120,000, which was
\ncomprised of various denominations as follows: Rp 40,000 in Rp
\n10,000 notes; Rp 50,000 in Rp 1000 and Rp 500 notes; and the
\nremaining Rp 30,000 in coins of Rp 1000 and Rp 500 denominations.<\/p>\n
The bank accepted all the banknotes directly, but it
\ncategorically rejected the coins and told me, without providing
\nany explanation, that I had to change the coins into banknotes
\nbefore I could deposit them. I guessed that the cashier found it
\ntoo burdensome to count the coins. I have never heard of any law
\nprohibiting one from depositing money in the form of coins, which
\nare legal tender.<\/p>\n
I was very disappointed by this incident. A bank is supposed
\nto give the best service to its customers.<\/p>\n
