Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) fell 1.03% to 6,083.68 during Thursday afternoon trading, reversing an early gain as selling pressure intensified. Higher US Treasury yields, a hawkish Federal Reserve outlook and weakness across Asian equity markets weighed on sentiment, despite strong demand at a US 10-year bond auction helping yields retreat from recent highs.

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) remained
in negative territory midway through the second trading session on
Thursday (8 October 2026). Selling
pressure then emerged, dragging the index sharply down towards 6,100
before 10am. At around 10am, the JCI staged a limited rebound to between
6,120 and 6,130, but the recovery did not last.

From 11am, the index resumed its gradual decline, trading between
6,090 and 6,110. Towards the end of the session, the JCI briefly edged
above 6,100 before falling sharply in the final minutes to its intraday
low of 6,079.46.

Market sentiment on Thursday (8 October 2026) is expected to be
shaped by developments in Indonesia’s external resilience and the
direction of global monetary policy. Indonesia’s foreign exchange
reserves edged down yesterday, although reserve adequacy remained above
international standards; data on the country’s base money was also
released.

Attention today is turning to the minutes of the Federal Open Market
Committee (FOMC) meeting, released early this morning, as well as
Indonesia’s consumer confidence report.

A hawkish Federal Reserve outlook, a surge in the dollar index and
elevated US Treasury yields are likely to put pressure on equities and
the rupiah.

Minutes from the European Central Bank and US jobless claims will be
among the next data points assessed for their implications for
interest-rate prospects, exchange rates and risk assets.

US Treasury yields fell on Wednesday after a nearly US$40 billion
auction of 10-year notes attracted strong demand. The decline followed a
rise in yields to levels not seen since 2002.

The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note, an important benchmark for
equity markets, briefly reached 5.365% in Wednesday’s trading. That was
its highest level since April 2002.

Yields on longer-dated bonds also rose. The 30-year Treasury yield
briefly touched 5.732%, before falling again on strong demand at the
auction.

The US Treasury Department auctioned US$39 billion of 10-year notes
at a yield of 5.300%, the highest level this century. Strong demand
subsequently helped bring the yield down to about 5.27%. According to
Bloomberg, bids totalled 2.77 times the amount on offer.

Indirect investors, including central banks and institutional
investors, accounted for 80.34% of demand. Direct bidders took 17.12%,
indicating strong appetite for the securities.

The 30-year Treasury yield also fell to around 5.65%, in line with
robust demand for US government debt.

Rising Treasury yields are a concern for Indonesia because they can
increase pressure on emerging-market assets.

Meanwhile, Asian stock markets weakened on Thursday (8 October 2026),
as rising bond yields dampened investor appetite for equities.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.4%, South Korea’s Kospi lost 0.35%, and
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.4%.
",
