Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has launched a scathing\nattack on former US President Donald Trump\u2019s announcement of a 20 per\ncent tariff on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded by mocking Trump\u2019s\ndeclaration. He reiterated Tehran\u2019s longstanding claim that it is the\ncentral guarantor of security in the Strait of Hormuz. \u2018POTUS is\nabsolutely right. Whoever guarantees safe and secure passage for\ncommercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz deserves a reward for that\nservice,\u2019 Araghchi said on social media, before asserting that Iran has\nalways been and will forever remain the guardian of the strait.
