        "content": "<p>New Delhi (ANTARA) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on\nSaturday called for urgent reform of the United Nations and emphasised\nthe need to restructure the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Lula da Silva arrived in India for a five-day state\nvisit, during which he met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to critical minerals and trade, the two leaders discussed\ncooperation in investment, defence, multilateralism, and global\ngovernance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe reaffirmed our commitment to reforming the UN, particularly the\nSecurity Council, so that it represents the interests of Global South\nnations, where Brazil and India are fitting candidates,\u201d he said at a\njoint press conference with Modi.<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian President added that 20 years ago, Brazil, India,\nJapan, and Germany formed the Group of Four (G4), which has long\nadvocated for the expansion of the Security Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExpanding the permanent and non-permanent membership of the Security\nCouncil, including Brazil and India, is essential for the legitimacy and\nefficiency of global governance,\u201d Lula said.<\/p>\n<p>The Group of Four (G4) comprises India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan,\nwhich seek to obtain permanent seats on the UN Security Council and\nwhose levels of development are comparable to those of current permanent\nSecurity Council members.<\/p>\n<p>At the most recent G4 meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security\nConference, the foreign ministers called for Security Council reform and\nreaffirmed their mutual support.<\/p>",
