Brazil to improve business ties with RI<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Brazil expects to increase economic ties with
\nIndonesia in line with the country's strategy to boost economic
\ncooperation with Asian countries, the country's ambassador to
\nIndonesia Jadiel Ferreira De Oliveira said yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"Cooperation with Indonesia can be in the form of anything
\nthat suits Indonesia -- investment, export and import, or
\ntechnology transfer,\" De Oliveira said.<\/p>\n
He said the two country's trade balance had been in favor of
\nBrazil, and he expected Indonesian exports to Brazil would
\nfurther increase to about US$300 million this year, up from about
\n$234 million last year.<\/p>\n
Brazil's exports to Indonesia reached about $410 million last
\nyear, including the cost of insurance and freight.<\/p>\n
Major Indonesian export commodities to Brazil include copper
\nore and concentrate, sound recorders or reproducers, footwear,
\nnatural rubber or latex, fixed vegetable fats and oils, and
\ntextile yarn.<\/p>\n
Brazil's exports to Indonesia include feed for animals, iron
\nand steel, iron ore and concentrate, pulp and waste paper, sugar,
\nmolasses, honey, petroleum products and motor vehicle parts.<\/p>\n
De Oliveira said Brazilian businesses also had their eye on
\nIndonesia for investment. For example, the country expected to
\ncooperate with the Salim Group to produce irrigation equipment.<\/p>\n
\"We also hope to produce natural rubber in Brazil using
\ncapital and technology from Indonesia,\" he said, adding that
\nBrazil now imported about 100,000 tons of natural rubber from
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
As part of its trade mission in Asia, Brazil will hold a
\nseminar regarding trade and investment in Jakarta on Oct. 30.<\/p>\n
Five Brazilian specialists on trade and investment will talk
\nabout areas open for investment at the seminar to be held at the
\nHilton.<\/p>\n
The seminar is part of the Brazilian trade mission in Asia,
\nwhich will be highlighted by the upcoming Expo Brazil Asia in
\nSingapore from Oct. 28 to Oct. 31. Forty-six major Brazilian
\ncompanies will participate in the Expo. (das)<\/p>",
