        "content": "<p>Rio de Janeiro (ANTARA) - Brazil on Thursday rejected the United\nStates\u2019 decision to impose a 12.5 per cent tariff on Brazilian products,\nfollowing a Section 301 trade investigation into 60 trading partners.\nBrazil will pursue dispute settlement at the World Trade Organisation\n(WTO). Calling the Section 301 trade investigation \u201carbitrary and\nbaseless,\u201d the Brazilian government assessed that the US had used the\nissue of forced labour as a pretext to implement protectionist trade\npolicies, and \u201cchose to manipulate an issue of great importance to human\nrights and the struggle of workers worldwide,\u201d despite Brazil having\nsubmitted various documents and explanations regarding its legislation\nand law enforcement mechanisms during the investigation. Brazil said it\nwould immediately begin procedures to activate response mechanisms under\nits \u201cReciprocity Law,\u201d while simultaneously bringing the matter to the\nWTO dispute settlement mechanism. The US import tariffs, imposed on\ndozens of markets over allegations of weak enforcement of forced labour\nbans, are scheduled to take effect on Friday.<\/p>",
