Brasilia (ANTARA) - Brazil on Monday (31\/8) once again expressed its\ndissatisfaction with the tariffs imposed by the United States (US) on\nBrazilian products, stating that the tariffs are \u201cunjustified and\ninconsistent\u201d with international trade rules.<\/p>\n
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and Brazil\u2019s Minister of\nDevelopment, Industry, Trade, and Services, Marcio Elias Rosa, conveyed\nthis dissatisfaction during a virtual meeting with US Trade\nRepresentative Jamieson Greer.<\/p>\n
In a joint statement, both Brazilian ministries stated that Brazil is\nbeing treated unfairly and that the reasons provided by Washington in\nits investigation under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974 do not\nreflect Brazil\u2019s actual practices.<\/p>\n
Despite these differences, both countries have agreed to continue\nnegotiations. Technical meetings, both virtual and in-person, will be\nheld in the coming weeks, followed by further ministerial-level meetings\nto evaluate progress.<\/p>\n
The Brazilian government stated it will continue to seek a \u201cbalanced\nand mutually beneficial\u201d agreement with the US through dialogue and\nrespect for national sovereignty.<\/p>\n
The virtual meeting on Monday took place following a telephone\nconversation between Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and\nUS President Donald Trump on 21 August. During that call, Lula\nquestioned the implementation of the tariffs, while Trump proposed the\nresumption of negotiations.<\/p>\n
In July, the US Trade Representative\u2019s office imposed an additional\n25 per cent duty on several Brazilian products following a review\nlasting nearly a year.
