Brantas River: One of most successful projects<\/p>\n
The comprehensive development of Brantas River Basin is one of
\nthe most successful projects in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Due to the construction of Dams and Barrages, Surabaya has
\nbecome safe against flood disasters. And the electricity
\ngenerated by hydraulic power plants could have changed Surabaya
\ninto an industrial city.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Brantas river basin has become a very good
\ngranary area with irrigation projects and a large investment of
\nfertilizer, agricultural machinery and so on.<\/p>\n
Japan has cooperated with the comprehensive development of
\nBrantas River Basin for 40 years. This year is the 40 years'
\nanniversary of the development.<\/p>\n
Japan has long been the largest provider of official
\ndevelopment (ODA) to Indonesia, and has contributed about 62
\npercent of the total amount of the bilateral official assistance
\nbetween 1982 and 1999.<\/p>\n
Major achievements by the Japanese ODA as follows; Semanggi
\nFlyover, Railway Development in Jabotabek area, Way Sekampung
\nirrigation infrastructure, comprehensive development of Brantas
\nriver basin, the emergency medical center of Dr Cipto
\nMangunkusumo Hospital, improvement of higher education (Bandung
\nInstitute of Technology, Surabaya Polytechnics, etc).<\/p>",
