Head of the Indonesian Air Force Information Service (Kadispenau) Air\nVice Marshal TNI I Nyoman Suadnyana has confirmed that all crew members\nof a Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter jet are safe after the aircraft overshot\nthe runway at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Maros Regency,\nSouth Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe aircraft and all crew are in a safe condition. The aircraft has\nsubsequently been towed to the maintenance hangar for inspection and\nprepared for the next test,\u201d Suadnyana said in a statement received in\nMakassar on Monday.<\/p>\n
He explained that the incident occurred during a test flight sequence\nfor the Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter jet following the completion of a heavy\nmaintenance overhaul.<\/p>\n
As part of the test flight sequence, the aircraft underwent an\ninspection stage involving a simulated take-off on the runway.<\/p>\n
According to Suadnyana, during the simulated take-off and braking, a\ntechnical fault occurred in the braking system, preventing it from\nfunctioning optimally.<\/p>\n
\u201cA technical fault occurred in the braking system, which did not\nfunction optimally, resulting in the aircraft overshooting the end of\nthe runway by 30 metres,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The aircraft was then towed to the maintenance hangar to undergo\ninspection before proceeding to the next stage of testing.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred at around 11.00 WITA on the western runway, or\nrunway 13, of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Acting Branch Communication and CSR Department Head of\nSultan Hasanuddin International Airport Taufan Yudhistira confirmed the\nincident.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on a viral video on social media, we can confirm that the\nincident did occur on the western runway (runway 13) at Sultan\nHasanuddin Airport,\u201d Taufan said.<\/p>\n
He said the airport authority, together with the Indonesian Air\nForce, handled the incident.<\/p>\n
According to Taufan, the fighter jet had previously used runway 03-21\nfor its flights.<\/p>\n
