BPW Indonesia President\nGiwo Rubianto said National Children\u2019s Day is not merely an annual\ncommemoration, but a reminder that today\u2019s children are the generation\nthat will determine Indonesia\u2019s future direction. \u201cTherefore, human\ndevelopment must be a priority by preparing a generation that is not\nonly intellectually intelligent but also possesses character and noble\nvalues,\u201d she said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Drawing on her\nexperience in women\u2019s empowerment, child protection, education, and\ncommunity development, Giwo believes children need to be the centre of\nattention in every national policy and development effort. \u201cThis\nexperience further strengthens my belief that the quality of the nation\nin the future is determined by how we love, protect, and prepare the\nnext generation from today,\u201d she said. She also mentioned that the 42nd\nNational Children\u2019s Day commemoration in 2026 is a momentum to reaffirm\nthe shared commitment that every Indonesian child has the right to\naffection, protection, quality education, and equal opportunities to\ngrow and develop according to their potential. This is in line with the\nprinciples of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which affirms\nevery child\u2019s right to live, grow, develop, receive protection from all\nforms of violence, and have their voice respected. Special attention and\nprotection must also be given to children in vulnerable conditions,\nincluding those experiencing violence, bullying, exploitation, neglect,\nchildren in conflict with the law, and children requiring special\nassistance. \u201cThey are not to be blamed, but must be heard, accompanied,\nrehabilitated, and given the same opportunity to grow and achieve a\nbetter future through violence prevention efforts, the provision of safe\ncomplaint spaces, victim assistance, and collaboration from all parties\nto ensure the protection and fulfilment of children\u2019s rights,\u201d she\nexplained. On the other hand, amidst changing times and increasingly\nrapid technological development, children face ever more complex\nchallenges. Therefore, they need to be equipped not only with knowledge\nand skills but also with character values such as integrity, honesty,\nresponsibility, discipline, empathy, tolerance, and a spirit of mutual\ncooperation as provisions for facing the future. She invited all\nelements of the nation\u2014families, the government, educational\ninstitutions, the business world, community organisations, the media,\nand all levels of society\u2014to jointly create a safe, healthy, inclusive,\nand child-friendly ecosystem.
