        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a\nsignificant increase in visits by international tourists (wisman) and\nmovements by domestic tourists (wisnus) in March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono,\nstated in Jakarta on Monday that the number of wisman visits in March\n2026 reached 1.09 million, an increase of 10.50 per cent compared to the\nsame period the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Cumulatively, from January to March 2026, the number of wisman visits\ntotalled 3.44 million, growing 8.62 per cent year-on-year compared to\nthe same period in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWisman visits from January to March 2026 represent the highest\nachievement since 2020,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>By nationality, tourists from Malaysia remained the largest\ncontributors to visits to Indonesia, with 186,530 visits or 17.14 per\ncent of the total wisman.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he noted that not only wisman but also domestic tourist\nmovements showed a sharp increase. BPS recorded 126.34 million wisnus\ntrips in March 2026, a 42.10 per cent jump compared to March 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Cumulatively, total wisnus trips from January to March 2026 reached\n319.51 million, up 13.14 per cent from the same period the previous\nyear.<\/p>\n<p>This surge, according to him, aligns with increased public mobility\nduring the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah period, with all modes of transport\nrecording higher passenger numbers during that time.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that rail transport recorded the highest number of\npassengers at 48.14 million people, up 17.76 per cent from March 2025.\nMeanwhile, domestic air transport served 5.62 million passengers, an\nincrease of 32.35 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Increases also occurred in domestic sea transport, reaching 3.12\nmillion passengers or up 26.72 per cent, as well as international air\ntransport with 1.54 million passengers, growing 8.14 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry transport recorded a surge of 72.73 per cent, with a total of\n7.06 million passengers.<\/p>",
