Surabaya, East Java - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) stated\nthat 31,339 international tourists visited East Java Province in April\n2026 via Juanda Airport, marking a 26.37 per cent increase compared to\nthe 24,800 visits recorded in April 2025. \u201cThis condition has also\nimproved compared to March 2026, which saw 21,068 visits,\u201d said the\nActing Head of BPS East Java, Herum Fajarwati, during a press conference\nin Surabaya on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The largest group of international visitors were Chinese nationals,\nwith 11,427 visits, representing 36.46 per cent of the total\ninternational arrivals through Juanda. This was followed by Malaysian\nnationals with 6,363 visits, and Singaporean nationals with 2,052\nvisits.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, domestic tourist trips from East Java in April 2026 were\nrecorded at 14.73 million trips, a decrease of 23.93 per cent compared\nto March 2026. Based on origin, Surabaya City recorded the highest\nnumber of domestic tourist trips at 2.27 million, or approximately 15.42\nper cent of the total domestic trips from East Java.<\/p>\n
Domestic tourist trips in April 2026 declined across all regencies\nand cities in East Java compared to the previous year, with Bangkalan\nRegency experiencing a significant decrease of 53.35 per cent.<\/p>\n
The occupancy rate (TPK) for star-rated hotels in East Java in April\n2026 was recorded at 46.80 per cent, an increase of 3.38 percentage\npoints compared to March 2026, which stood at 43.42 per cent. \u201cThe\nincrease in occupancy in April 2026 was driven by growth across all\nstar-rated hotel classes,\u201d Herum noted. The increases were observed in\n1-star hotels by 1.21, 2-star by 1.97, 3-star by 6.21, 4-star by 2.12,\nand 5-star by 0.01. Occupancy for non-star hotels and other\naccommodations rose to 22.59 per cent, up 3.12 percentage points from\nMarch\u2019s 19.47 per cent.<\/p>\n
Three regencies\/cities recorded the highest star-rated hotel\noccupancy rates: Gresik Regency (73.88 per cent), Mojokerto City (70.36\nper cent), and Tulungagung Regency (58.85 per cent). Conversely,\nProbolinggo Regency, Trenggalek Regency, and Pasuruan Regency recorded\nthe lowest occupancy rates at 9.10 per cent, 16.10 per cent, and 23.18\nper cent, respectively.<\/p>\n
Herum stated that high hotel occupancy in certain areas is influenced\nby several key factors, including strategic locations near business\ncentres, tourist destinations, or transport facilities such as airports\nand stations.
