The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded that the Farmers\u2019\nTerms of Trade (NTP) in East Java rose by 3.32 per cent in May 2026\ncompared to April 2026, increasing from 116.46 to 120.33. This was due\nto the farmer price receiving index (It) rising by 3.76 per cent, while\nthe farmer paying index (Ib) increased by 0.43 per cent.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis NTP is one of the indicators used to assess the level of\npurchasing power of farmers in rural areas,\u201d said the Acting Head of BPS\nEast Java, Herum Fajarwati, during a press conference in Surabaya, East\nJava, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Herum noted that looking at the development of each sub-sector in May\n2026, three agricultural sub-sectors experienced an increase in NTP,\nwhile two others experienced a decline. The Food Crop, Horticulture, and\nLivestock sub-sectors saw increases of 2.67 per cent, 11.77 per cent,\nand 0.84 per cent (month-to-month) respectively. Conversely, the\nSmallholder Plantation and Fisheries sub-sectors experienced declines of\n1.05 per cent and 1.08 per cent.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Smallholder Plantation sub-sector experienced the deepest\ndecline in the receiving index (It) at 0.82 per cent, followed by the\nFisheries sub-sector, which fell by 0.75 per cent,\u201d Herum stated.<\/p>\n
The ten main commodities that contributed most significantly to the\nincrease in the price index received by farmers in May 2026 were\nunhusked rice, bird\u2019s eye chilli, shallots, beef cattle, maize, goats,\nred chilli, dairy cattle, cassava, and cabbage.
