Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has\nrecorded price increases for bird\u2019s eye chilli and red chilli across\nhundreds of regencies and cities during the third week of September\n2026.<\/p>\n
Ateng Hartono, the BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services\nStatistics, stated that the price increase for bird\u2019s eye chilli has\ncontinued to spread over the last four weeks. The number of regencies\nand cities experiencing price hikes for bird\u2019s eye chilli has reached\n265, representing approximately 73.61 per cent of the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe increase has been step-like, rising steadily from the fourth\nweek of last month through to the third week of this month, in terms of\nthe number of regencies and cities. It has now reached 265 regencies and\ncities where bird\u2019s eye chilli prices are increasing,\u201d Ateng said in\nJakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
In addition to the increasing number of affected areas, the price of\nbird\u2019s eye chilli has also recorded a substantial rise. As of the third\nweek of September, the price increase for bird\u2019s eye chilli reached\n29.85 per cent.<\/p>\n
Currently, the price of bird\u2019s eye chilli is far above the maximum\nretail price (HAP). BPS noted that the HAP for bird\u2019s eye chilli is set\nat Rp57,000 per kilogram, whereas the current national average has\nreached Rp77,596 per kilogram.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that several regencies and cities have recorded bird\u2019s\neye chilli prices far exceeding the HAP. These include North Halmahera,\nEast Bolaang Mongondow, Bone Bolango, North Bolaang Mongondow, East\nHalmahera, and North Gorontalo, where prices range between Rp120,000 and\nRp199,000 per kilogram.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, red chilli prices have also increased and spread to 248\nregencies and cities, or 68.89 per cent of Indonesia\u2019s regions, in the\nthird week of September 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor red chilli, the number of regencies and cities has increased\nover the last four weeks. As of the third week, it stands at 248\nregencies and cities,\u201d said Ateng.<\/p>\n
In terms of the magnitude of the increase, red chilli prices were\nrecorded to have risen by 15.83 per cent. As of the third week of\nSeptember, red chilli prices have reached and even slightly exceeded the\nupper limit of the reference price.<\/p>\n
The national average price for red chilli is Rp56,231 per kilogram,\nwhile the HAP is set at Rp55,000 per kilogram.<\/p>\n
Ateng stated that this condition requires attention because red\nchilli prices should ideally remain within the range between the lower\nand upper limits of the HAP.<\/p>\n
BPS also noted that several regencies and cities are experiencing red\nchilli prices that are more than 50 per cent to over 100 per cent above\nthe upper HAP limit.<\/p>\n
