BPS; inflation in October to drop below two digits<\/p>\n
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) predicts year-on-year inflation in October will drop below two digits after reaching 14.55 percent in September.<\/p>\n
\"God willing, year-on-year inflation next month will be below ten percent unless there is no eventuality,\" BPS chief Rusman Heriawan said here on Monday.<\/p>\n
He said inflation in October last year reached 8.7 percent as a result of fuel oil price hike, fasting month and post-fasting celebrations that had made all prices go up.<\/p>\n
He said he predicted the inflation in October would range between one and 1.5 percent if nothing extraordinary occurred.<\/p>\n
He said prices of products such as meat, flour and sugar would probably increase significantly in the month in line the Islamic fasting month of Ramadhan and post-fasting celebrations.<\/p>\n
He said the inflation in September was recorded at 0.38 percent, up from 0.33 percent in August.<\/p>\n
The inflation from January to September meanwhile was recorded at 4.06 percent and 14.55 percent year-on-year.<\/p>\n
Rusman said based on data except in 2006 when oil prices were raised the inflation during Islamic fasting month, post-fasting celebrations, Christmas and New Year festivities had never been above two percent.
