        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2013 The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) has\ntaken action against 11 cosmetics containing dangerous and\/or prohibited\nsubstances by revoking their distribution permits and temporarily\nhalting related activities, including production, distribution, and\nimport of the affected cosmetics.<\/p>\n<p>BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar stated that these products were discovered\nthrough monitoring in the first quarter of 2026. Of the total findings,\nfour brands are contract-manufactured cosmetics, two are local\ncosmetics, two are imported cosmetics, and three are cosmetics without\ndistribution permits (TIE). Dexamethasone risks triggering dermatitis,\nacne, and hormonal disorders. Meanwhile, hydroquinone and mercury can\ncause permanent skin colour changes and irritation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMercury can even lead to organ damage such as to the kidneys. Then,\nthe compound 1,4-dioxane and Red K10 dye have the potential to trigger\ncancer. Additionally, Red K10 dye can also impair liver function,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Through its technical implementing units across Indonesia, BPOM is\nalso cracking down on production facilities and distribution channels,\nincluding retail, and tracing the production and distribution\nchains.<\/p>\n<p>The circulation of cosmetics containing dangerous and\/or prohibited\nsubstances constitutes a violation of Article 435 paragraph (1) in\nconjunction with Article 138 paragraph (2) of Law No.\u00a017 of 2023 on\nHealth.<\/p>\n<p>That article, he said, states that violators can be subject to\nimprisonment for a maximum of 12 years or a fine of up to Rp5 billion.\nThis violation article applies to anyone who produces or circulates\npharmaceutical preparations that do not meet standards and\/or safety,\nefficacy, and quality requirements.<\/p>",
