The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has uncovered the\ncirculation of counterfeit medicines under the brands Codrela and Trivam\nFliege. Neither product listed a marketing authorisation number on its\npackaging, and both were sold online. Upon investigation, neither\nCodrela nor Trivam Fliege was found to be registered with the BPOM.<\/p>\n
\u201cLaboratory test results confirmed that Codrela did not contain the\nactive ingredient codeine as stated on the packaging, but instead\ncontained dextromethorphan and chlorpheniramine maleate (CTM),\u201d said\nBPOM Head Taruna Ikrar in a statement on Monday (1\/7).<\/p>\n
He added that the other counterfeit medicine, Trivam Fliege, was\ndiscovered on a marketplace platform. The product claimed to contain 20\nmg of the active ingredient propofol. Ikrar noted that in the medical\nworld, propofol is used as an intravenous general anaesthetic for the\ninduction and maintenance of anaesthesia and sedation during medical\nprocedures or intensive care. \u201cPropofol is a prescription drug that must\nbe used according to a doctor\u2019s prescription,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n
In response to these findings, the BPOM has undertaken several\nfollow-up actions. Further surveillance, intelligence tracing, and\ninvestigations are being conducted to uncover the source and the parties\nresponsible for producing and\/or distributing the counterfeit drugs. The\nBPOM is also intensifying its monitoring of online media through cyber\npatrols. From 2023 to March 2026, the agency successfully identified 183\nlinks on marketplaces selling the fake Trivam. The results of this\nsurveillance have been followed up with recommendations for the takedown\nof links or content promoting counterfeit products, submitted to the\nMinistry of Communication and Digital Affairs, the Indonesian E-Commerce\nAssociation (idEA), and the marketplace platforms.<\/p>\n
The BPOM will take firm action against any perpetrators proven to be\ndistributing counterfeit medicines, whether online or offline. They face\ncriminal sanctions of up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of\nRp2 billion. Counterfeit medicines remain a serious threat to public\nhealth and safety. They may contain incorrect compositions, too much or\ntoo little active ingredient, or no active ingredient at all. In some\ncases, counterfeit medicines have been found to contain other harmful\nactive substances.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe BPOM also urges the public to immediately report to the BPOM if\nthey find the circulation of Codrela and Trivam Fliege, whether in\noffline or online facilities,\u201d appealed the Head of BPOM.
