        "content": "<p>BPOM says there are around 14 million MSMEs that have not been served\nby BPOM, and it will undertake data collection on MSMEs as part of\nefforts to help improve the quality, safety, and efficacy of their\nproducts. Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar, said that of around 60 million\nmicro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia today, 18\nmillion are directly related to BPOM\u2019s duties and functions. \u2018Currently,\nonly 4.2 million MSMEs are registered with BPOM,\u2019 he said at the Soft\nLaunch of SAPA UMKM in Jakarta, on Thursday. \u2018Thus, fellow MSMEs who\nwant to register their products for downstreaming are blocked. They\ncannot obtain a licence number, so they cannot sell their products,\u2019 he\nsaid. \u2018BPOM is committed to prioritising product safety standards.\nHowever, Taruna noted that BPOM also seeks to help MSMEs.\u2019 \u2018Next, BPOM\nwill provide mentoring and assistance so that MSMEs can obtain licences,\nenabling them to market their products. The hope is that MSMEs can\nupgrade.\u2019 The BPOM head hopes that MSMEs will no longer fear registering\nwith BPOM, because they fully support MSMEs. Through a network of 83\nTechnical Implementation Units (UPT) across Indonesia, BPOM continues to\nproactively drive the development of local MSMEs to go national and even\ninternational. \u2018Millions of MSMEs in Indonesia are an asset for\nimproving the welfare of the people as well as the independence and\nsovereignty of the nation,\u2019 he said. Meanwhile, the Minister for\nNational Development Planning\/Head of the National Development Planning\nAgency (Bappenas), Rachmat Pambudy, said that SAPA UMKM is a\ncross-ministry, cross-agency, cross-regional programme involving\ncommunities from Aceh to Papua. \u2018No country is strong without strong\nenterprises. The stronger the enterprise, the stronger the MSMEs, and\nthe MSMEs grow into large ones; that is where the country becomes\nsolid,\u2019 said Rachmat. The Minister of MSMEs, Maman Abdurrahman, added\nthat SAPA UMKM is not just an application, but a tool to show the\nMinistry of MSMEs\u2019 presence among millions of business actors. \u2018There\nmust be revolutionary breakthroughs that break through the constraints\nof space and time, geographical locations, coordination, and the\nconstraints that have long separated government from micro, small and\nmedium entrepreneurs. Do not let them not feel the government\u2019s touch\nand embrace in every stage of their growth,\u2019 he said. Therefore, a\nsystem should exist that enables communication, coordination and\ninteraction with all MSME actors across the country.
