The Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) has disclosed that it has\nreceived numerous letters of intent from investors seeking to acquire\nshareholdings in PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk (BMI). The BPKH Chief,\nFadlul Imansyah, stated that the letters of intent originate from both\ndomestic and foreign investors.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndeed, to date we have received many letters of intent from\ninvestors interested in our shareholding in Bank Muamalat. All are\ncurrently being processed, and of course with support from the Financial\nServices Authority (OJK), we hope that the strategic investor who\nbecomes our partner is the best investor for Bank Muamalat,\u201d Fadlul said\nduring the 99 Islamic Economists Dialogue 2026 held at Menara Bank Mega\nAuditorium in Jakarta on Tuesday (24\/2\/2026), with the theme \u201cIslamic\nEconomy Mainstreaming as a New Pillar of National Economic Growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fadlul declined to disclose the identities of interested parties in\nIndonesia\u2019s oldest Islamic bank. He confirmed that the investor search\nprocess is being directly monitored by the OJK.<\/p>\n
The BPKH hopes the new investor can enter Bank Muamalat soon. Whilst\nFadlul did not provide a specific target, he expressed hope that this\ncould happen as quickly as possible, potentially by the end of this year\nif feasible.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe target is certainly as soon as possible. Because we are racing\nagainst time to be able to compete and contend in Indonesia\u2019s Islamic\nbanking industry,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, Fadlul reported that the return on hajj fund\ninvestments at BMI has returned to principal value, with total returns\nreaching nearly one trillion rupiahs by the end of last year. He noted\nthat the BPKH\u2019s equity ownership in Muamalat stands at approximately one\ntrillion rupiahs. Therefore, the BPKH\u2019s investment position in\nIndonesia\u2019s oldest Islamic bank remains under control.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs far as we have received information from Muamalat\u2019s management as\nwell, indeed the investment that we have made in total rupiah value has\nreturned to our principal value. So hopefully it remains safe to date.\nThe total equity we hold is one trillion rupiahs,\u201d Fadlul stated.<\/p>\n
He noted that the total return since becoming the controlling\nshareholder of BMI has nearly reached one trillion rupiahs. For context,\nBank Muamalat has been under BPKH control since 15 November 2021.<\/p>\n
Previously, OJK Banking Supervision Executive Head Dian Ediana Rae\nmentioned that Bank Muamalat is currently taking steps to strengthen its\nlisting process, including exploring new investors.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany investors are currently interested and showing interest. We are\nalso examining how the prospects look going forward alongside current\ndevelopments,\u201d Dian said when met at Wisma Danantara recently.<\/p>\n
According to her, Bank Muamalat occupies a strategic position as\nIndonesia\u2019s oldest Islamic bank, with a shareholder base supported by\nthe Muslim community, which possesses high loyalty.
