\nMinister Costas Simitis on Monday fired Health Minister Alecos
\nPapadopoulos for shaking the Socialist government by saying he

\nmonth he would not run as a candidate in national elections

Mexico's first freedom of information law signed: President
\nVicente Fox signed Mexico's first freedom of information law on
\nMonday, exposing the government and its records to greater public
\nscrutiny. The Federal law of Transparency and Access to Public
\nGovernment Information requires all branches of government to
\nprovide copies of public documents - from government employees'
\nsalaries to details about public programs and government
\ncontracts - within 20 days of any citizen's request. The law was
