BPBD Bantul will collaborate with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to
carry out checks at the landslide-prone site in Guwo, Triwidadi,
Pajangan, Bantul. The inspection is planned for Monday, 9 March. “We
have cross-checked, and on Monday the potential partnership with UGM
will be examined to determine the causes. Whether the soil is too
saturated or there is a plate substructure in the area,” said Bantul
BPBD Secretary Ribut Bimo Haryo Tejo when contacted by detikJogja on
Sunday, 8 March 2026. The checks, Ribut said, aim to confirm the causes
of the landslide in Triwidadi. He believes unstable soil conditions are
one of the causes. In addition, unstable soil exposed to water
continually will eventually experience subsidence. “So in February there
were heavy rains and I analysed the area there; Pajangan soil is
unstable and saturated. Such soil, when there is too much water, gets
eroded and will automatically subside,” he said. Meanwhile, up to now
dozens of houses have been affected by the landslide. One house nearly
collapsed because the soil at the bottom was eroded. “The landslide
movement involves subsidence of up to 2.5 metres. The incident affected
20 houses, and one of them almost collapsed,” he said. Almost collapsed,
he said, because the subsidence occurs at the bottom of the house. This
poses a risk of collapse if heavy rain occurs again. “Fortunately, some
of the houses are unoccupied, so there were no fatalities or injuries,”
he added. On the other hand, Ribut revealed that the housing developers
have committed to bringing in excavators to open drainage channels that
stagnate in the housing area. “Then the residents affected will be
compensated by the developers. Why? Because there has not yet been a
handover of public facilities (fasum) with the district, so legally it
is not yet the responsibility of the Regency,” he said.
",
