Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency\n(BP3MI) for DKI Jakarta recorded high public enthusiasm for overseas job\nopportunities, especially in Japan, during a job fair at the Tanjung\nDuren Sports Hall.<\/p>\n
Expert Junior Employment Officer at BP3MI DKI Jakarta, Fida, noted\nthat the strong interest was evident from the number of people\nconsulting at the BP3MI booth, even though most initially lacked basic\ninformation about overseas placement schemes.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, many are interested in Japan. That country is experiencing an\nageing population phenomenon, where the birth rate is declining while\nthe elderly population is increasing. This triggers a high demand for\nforeign workers, especially for elderly care worker positions,\u201d Fida\nsaid during an interview on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
According to Fida, overseas job opportunities are expanding with\nvarious safe and legal official schemes, ranging from\nGovernment-to-Government (G-to-G) programmes managed by the state,\nprivate companies, to individual placements.<\/p>\n
Specifically for Japan, Fida added that besides care worker\npositions, the local government is also opening cooperation through the\nSpecified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa in sectors such as hospitality,\nagriculture, livestock, building cleaning, and food processing.<\/p>\n
The choice to migrate abroad is seen as a concrete solution amid\nlimited domestic employment opportunities.<\/p>\n
This was conveyed by job seekers on the ground, such as Reza (28) and\nDafa (25), two young men from Jakarta who are currently targeting job\nopportunities in Japan\u2019s agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
Dafa revealed that intense competition, a lack of transparency in the\nrecruitment process, and inadequate wage standards are the main factors\ndriving them to seek their fortunes abroad.<\/p>\n
\u201cFinding a job in Indonesia is increasingly difficult. Even applying\nfor an internship position often requires work experience. Competition\nis very tight, compounded by the \u2018insider\u2019 phenomenon and salary offers\nthat are sometimes inhumane,\u201d Dafa said.<\/p>\n
Echoing Dafa, Reza, who has a work background in logistics and FMCG,\nstated that working abroad represents a new challenge as well as an\nopportunity to improve their standard of living.<\/p>\n
To achieve this target, both have made thorough preparations over\nthree to five months by attending free Japanese language courses\nfacilitated by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the South\nJakarta Regional Job Training Centre.<\/p>\n
They have now obtained the JFT A2 language proficiency certificate\nand are in the job matching stage while preparing to take the SSW\ncompetency exam.<\/p>\n
Responding to this labour migration phenomenon, BP3MI DKI Jakarta\nreminded the public to always prioritise official channels and complete\nthe required competencies, especially language skills.<\/p>\n
Fida stressed that the completeness of documents and the strict\nbureaucracy implemented by the government are solely to provide legal\nprotection guarantees for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government\u2019s presence with document requirements is not to\ncomplicate matters, but to provide protection.
