BP Migas clarifies BPKP audit report<\/p>\n

BP Migas (the oil and gas implementing body) clarified on
\nMonday earlier media reports suggesting massive irregularities
\nwithin the agency.<\/p>\n
BP Migas deputy chairman for general affairs Bangun Usman
\nHarahap said that the Rp 967 billion (US$117.93 million)-worth of
\nirregularities revealed last week by the Development Finance
\nComptroller (BPKP) were graft cases that had accumulated between
\n1995 to 2001, involving oil and gas contractors in the country.<\/p>\n
He said that during the period, supervision of oil and gas
\ncontractors was carried out by state-owned oil and gas firm
\nPertamina, adding that BP Migas was set up in the middle of last
\nyear, taking over Pertamina's role in supervising the country's
\nupstream oil and gas industry.<\/p>\n
Based on the BPKP first-quarter audit report, BP Migas was
\nseen as the most corrupt government institution because the
\ncombined 61 instances of irregularity within the agency were the
\nlargest in terms of value.<\/p>\n
\"Thus it is incorrect to say that the irregularities occurred
\nwithin BP Migas,\" Bangun said.<\/p>\n
BP Migas' claim was also supported by BPKP itself.<\/p>\n
Ruchiyat, a director at BPKP, said in his letter that the
\naudit report on BP Migas was an accumulation of past
\nirregularities.<\/p>\n
\"During the period, supervision and control of oil and gas
\nproducers were still regulated by Pertamina's management
\nproduction-sharing contracts,\" he said in a statement to BP
\nMigas, a copy of which was obtained by The Jakarta Post.<\/p>",
