JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - British oil giant BP has removed Chairman\nAlbert Manifold from his position, just under a year after he assumed\nthe role.<\/p>\n
The dismissal came amid serious concerns over corporate governance\nand Manifold\u2019s leadership behaviour.<\/p>\n
BP announced the decision on Tuesday (26 May 2026) local time, with\nthe sudden change marking the latest upheaval in the oil major\u2019s\nleadership ranks.<\/p>\n
According to four sources familiar with the matter, Manifold was\noften aggressive towards colleagues within the company.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlbert has helped focus and accelerate BP\u2019s transformation. However,\nthe board was shocked and disappointed to learn of governance and\nbehaviour issues deemed unacceptable, hence our decisive action,\u201d said\nSenior Independent Director Amanda Blanc of BP, quoted by Reuters on\nFriday (29 May 2026).<\/p>\n
BP stated that the board unanimously decided Manifold would no longer\nserve as chairman or director of the company immediately.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis decision follows serious concerns raised to the board regarding\nkey governance standards, oversight, and behaviour,\u201d BP said in a\nstatement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was dismissed without warning or explanation,\u201d Manifold said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI completely deny the characterisation of my behaviour and will not\nallow a false narrative to stand,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Manifold\u2019s dismissal occurred less than eight months after he\nofficially became BP chairman in October 2025.<\/p>\n
