        "content": "<p>BATAM \u2014 the Batam Authority (BP Batam) moved swiftly in response to a\nfire that broke out at the Kabil Industrial Waste Processing Zone (KPLI)\non Tuesday evening, 23 June 2025, at approximately 19:50 WIB.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy for General Services at BP Batam, Ariastuty Sirait, went\ndirectly to the scene to ensure that the firefighting response was rapid\nand effective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful there were no casualties in this incident. That is\nthe most important thing,\u201d said Ariastuty at the location.<\/p>\n<p>The fire occurred in a building belonging to PT Desa Air Kargo Batam,\nwhich was known to store various waste materials including used rags,\nwastewater treatment plant sludge (sludge WWTP), rockwool, glycerine\nsludge, and residual blasting process materials.<\/p>\n<p>A joint team comprising BP Batam\u2019s Fire Brigade, the Batam City\nGovernment, and police units moved quickly to the scene and successfully\nprevented the fire from spreading to other areas. A total of 32 other\ntenants in the zone were saved from potential danger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe greatly appreciate the rapid response from all parties. This\ndemonstrates the level of preparedness that we must continue to maintain\nand improve,\u201d added Ariastuty.<\/p>\n<p>BP Batam has also instructed the warehouse operator to immediately\nconduct an evaluation of the security systems and waste management\npractices in place at the facility.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Ariastuty affirmed that BP Batam would continue to\nmonitor the investigation into the cause of the fire and strengthen\ncoordination with all relevant parties to prevent similar incidents in\nthe future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis incident serves as an important reminder that safety and waste\nmanagement must not be neglected. We hope that incidents like this will\nnot recur,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>",
