        "content": "<p>Deputy Head of BP Batam Li Claudia Chandra stated digital sector\ninvestments played an essential part in directing the economic\ntransformation of Batam, known for its strategic location and\ninternational connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI data center investments are a momentum to advance Batam\u2019s\ntransition to technology, innovation, and a digital-based economy,\u201d she\nstated in a written remarks received here on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>As the first step, Claudia Chandra added the Indonesian state-owned\nelectric utility company PT PLN in Batam area inked an electric power\npurchase agreement with PT Equator Gate System Batam (EGSB), which\nintended to carry out the investment in Batam.<\/p>\n<p>She described the first agreement is reflecting Batam\u2019s readiness to\nsupport hyperscale AI data center investment with a global standard.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia uses AI to crack down on online gambling\nsites<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Deputy for Investment at BP Batam, Fary Djemy Francis,\nstated his side will support the project through the fast-track\nexecution phase to expedite its realization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBP Batam provides investment certainty, service promptness, and\nregional readiness; while PLN Batam provides energy readiness. This\ncollaboration showed Batam\u2019s determination to be Indonesia\u2019s AI and\ndigital gateway with global connectivity,\u201d Francis said.<\/p>\n<p>He expected the EGSB project would encourage more investments in\nstrategic technology industries in Batam, such as cloud computing,\nsemiconductor, and AI services.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia strengthens AI Weather cooperation with\nJapan<\/p>\n<p>The investment, in addition to strengthen Batam\u2019s position in the\nglobal digital industry chain, will also provide economic benefits\nthrough job creation and human resources development, transfer of\ntechnology, and sustainable digital economic development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBatam will no longer develop as a manufacturing industry zone as it\nis transforming into an execution hub for the global digital industry,\u201d\nFrancis stated.<\/p>\n<p>PT EGSB is a developer of an AI data center backed by RangeIDC, one\nof the largest data center companies in China, listed on the Shenzhen\nStock Exchange.
