Boycott Akbar Tandjung<\/p>\n

We were rightfully disappointed by the Bulog II trials as they
\nfailed to divulge the involvement of high-ranking members of
\nGolkar and the Golkar Party as an institution for allegedly using
\nnon-budgetary Bulog funds for its own interests and for Golkar's
\nelection campaign in the 1999 general election.<\/p>\n
On Sept. 4, the panel of judges chaired by Amiruddin Zakaria
\npassed a verdict of three years in jail for Akbar Tandjung and 19
\nmonths each for Dadang Sukandar and Winfried Simatupang.<\/p>\n
Former president BJ Habibie, who was most responsible in
\ntapping the Bulog funds for some political interests has proven
\nto be a legal untouchable. Formally, the judicial process has
\ngone on but law and justice has been ignored.<\/p>\n
Regardless of our disappointment, Akbar Tandjung as the second
\nperson (after BJ Habibie) to bear responsibility in this abuse of
\nthe funds was convicted as his corruption can be proven.<\/p>\n
As the House of Representatives is a respectable institution
\nrepresenting the Indonesian people as a whole, Akbar Tandjung,
\nfor the sake of his moral and political responsibility, should
\nvoluntarily resign from his position as speaker of the House. We
\nfully believe that every House member with common sense will not
\nallow themselves be led by a convict.<\/p>\n
If Akbar Tandjung insists on maintaining his position as the
\nHouse Speaker, the New Order Alertness Committee calls on all
\nHouse members to boycott every House meeting chaired by Akbar
\nTandjung.<\/p>\n
This effort will become more effective if the print and
\nelectronic media boycott any reporting about Akbar Tandjung,
\nspecially in his capacity as House Speaker.<\/p>\n
