        "content": "<p>The Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI),\nBoyamin Saiman, has highlighted the slow handling of an alleged\ncorruption case concerning Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds\nfrom PT Petrogas Jatim Utama (PJU) by the Banyuwangi District\nProsecutor\u2019s Office. Boyamin expressed surprise that the case, which has\nbeen under investigation since 2025, has yet to show significant\nprogress. According to him, irregularities in the distribution of CSR\nfunds should be relatively easy to prove, as the focus of the\ninvestigation lies on whether the disbursement aligns with the\ndesignated social objectives. \u201cI am disappointed with the handling of\nthis case by the District Prosecutor\u2019s Office. Even the previous\nofficial, though still acting in a temporary capacity, had issued an\nassignment letter to initiate the inquiry,\u201d he told reporters on\nTuesday, 9 June. He explained that the misappropriation of CSR funds\nfalls under the category of a criminal corruption offence if proven to\nhave been used for personal gain or for parties affiliated with the fund\ndistributor. CSR funds carry a public interest, as companies benefit\nfrom tax reductions on the disbursed amounts. Therefore, he stressed\nthat the misuse of CSR cannot be viewed merely as an administrative\nissue. \u201cCSR is fundamentally linked to the public interest. If funds\nthat should have been given to the community are misused, then it can be\ncategorised as a criminal act of corruption,\u201d he stated. He compared the\nhandling of this case to several corruption cases managed by law\nenforcement at the national level. He assessed that the Banyuwangi\nDistrict Prosecutor\u2019s Office should have been able to elevate the case\nstatus to the investigation stage if the evidence was deemed sufficient.\nHe even reminded that public aspirations regarding the case had been\nconveyed up to the Attorney General\u2019s Office. Consequently, he believes\nthe Banyuwangi Prosecutor\u2019s Office needs to demonstrate seriousness to\navoid creating an impression of sluggishness in handling the alleged\ncorruption. Boyamin added that his organisation is also open to pursuing\nlegal action in the form of a pretrial lawsuit should the handling of\nthe case continue to drag on without certainty. \u201cIf this case continues\nto drag on, the people of Banyuwangi also have the right to file a\npretrial motion. Because those who are harmed are the community who\nshould have received the benefits of these CSR funds,\u201d he said.\nPreviously, the Banyuwangi District Prosecutor\u2019s Office had issued an\nAssignment Order to investigate the alleged misappropriation of CSR\nfunds from PT Petrogas Jatim Utama. The process originated from a public\ncomplaint submitted by the East Java Komunitas Cinta Bangsa in December\n2025. Several witnesses have also been questioned during the initial\ninquiry phase. To date, the Banyuwangi District Prosecutor\u2019s Office is\nstill handling the investigation into the alleged corruption of CSR\nfunds and the reported abuse of authority related to PT Petrogas Jatim\nUtama.<\/p>",
