Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo inaugurated a Boxing Ring Arena\nbeneath the Pasar Rebo flyover in East Jakarta on Monday, as part of an\neffort to optimise urban spaces into productive and beneficial\nareas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe utilisation of the area under the Pasar Rebo Flyover is an\neffort to optimise urban space so that it becomes more useful for the\ncommunity, while simultaneously providing a space for healthy activities\nand preventing activities that have the potential to disturb local\npeace,\u201d Pramono stated at the site.<\/p>\n
The boxing ring was constructed through community self-funding and\nhas been in use since January 2026. The facility covers an area of 247\nsquare metres, featuring a 9.5-metre by 9.5-metre arena, with training\nsessions supervised directly by professional boxing communities.<\/p>\n
Pramono noted that the presence of such sports facilities has proven\ncapable of channeling the energy of young people towards more positive\npursuits. He mentioned that since the facility\u2019s introduction, street\nbrawls in the surrounding area have seen a significant decline.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully, this will benefit the youth in East Jakarta so that their\nenergy is channelled through places like this, making them more\nproductive, reducing street fights, and hopefully, they can be involved\nin maintaining the peace of Jakarta,\u201d Pramono added.<\/p>\n
During the same event, local resident and boxing coach Sudirman, 54,\nexpressed his appreciation for the new sports facility. He noted that\nthe boxing arena is beneficial for residents, particularly in reducing\nthe potential for brawls in the Pasar Rebo area and its\nsurroundings.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlhamdulillah, we are very grateful. Brawls often occur here.
