Botabek expected to support Jakarta<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): West Java Governor R. Nuriana expressed hope on
\nMonday that Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi (Botabek) would be
\nappointed supporting regions in Jakarta's efforts to become a
\nservice city.<\/p>\n
"That will give equal treatment to both (Jakarta and Botabek)
\nareas," said Nuriana.<\/p>\n
The three regencies, known as Botabek, outline the suburbs of
\nSouth, West and East Jakarta respectively.<\/p>\n
"Bekasi and Tangerang provide Jakarta with housing complexes
\nand industrial estates. They also provide water sources for the
\ncity," Nuriana was quoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
"Bogor, on the other hand, serves as a water catchment area
\nfor Jakarta. It provides the city with residential complexes and
\nagricultural areas," Nuriana said.<\/p>\n
Nuriana was making a speech at a ceremony held in Bekasi where
\nthe Jakarta city administration, represented by Governor Surjadi
\nSoedirdja, symbolically delivered ten projects it financed and
\ncompleted within the three regencies.<\/p>\n
The ten projects included five road improvement projects, the
\ngreening of severely eroded land, the construction of two senior
\nhigh school buildings and a multipurpose building.<\/p>\n
In response to Nuriana's speech, Surjadi said that from the
\nviewpoint of regional planning, the planning of Jakarta could not
\nbe separated from that of Botabek.<\/p>\n
"This is clear from the plan to develop the Jakarta-Bogor-
\nTangerang-Bekasi (Jabotabek) mass rapid transport system and
\nother spatial planning," Surjadi added.<\/p>\n
"Jakarta is inseparable from Botabek and vice versa.
\nDramatically speaking, the two need each other, long for each
\nother and nurture each other," said the Jakarta governor.<\/p>\n
On the occasion, Nuriana asked the city administration to warn
\nJakartans who move residences to Botabek areas to also change
\ntheir Jakarta ID cards with those of their respective Botabek
\nareas.<\/p>\n
Earlier last Saturday in Bandung Nuriana and Surjadi signed a
\njoint regulation on the organization, structure and job
\ndescription of the Jabotabek Development Cooperating Agency
