Borobudur is projected to host the largest business-to-business (B2B)
tourism event on Java through the Borobudur & Beyond Tourism Expo
(BBTE) 2026. The large-scale tourism business event is scheduled to take
place on 25–28 October 2026 at the Grand Artos Hotel & Convention in
Magelang, Central Java. This was agreed in a meeting between the Head of
the Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy Office (Disbudparekraf) of
Central Java Province, AR Hanung Triyono, RajaMICE Group CEO Panca
Rudolf Sarungu, and BBTE 2026 Committee Chairman Sugeng Sugiantro in
Semarang on Friday (14/8/2026). Hanung Triyono emphasised that BBTE 2026
has strategic value in strengthening Borobudur’s position as a driving
centre for the regional tourism economy. “BBTE is in line with the
global agglomeration concept promoted by Central Java Governor Ahmad
Luthfi. Borobudur is not only a tourism destination, but can become a
hub that connects various tourism potentials in Central Java through
connectivity, collaboration, and strengthening the area as one economic
ecosystem,” said Hanung in a statement on Saturday (15/8/2026). The
business exhibition targets the involvement of 100 sellers and 200
buyers, not only from domestic and international travel agents and tour
operators, but also from the corporate sector, event organisers, and
wedding planners. RajaMICE Group CEO Panca Rudolf Sarungu stressed that
BBTE is specifically designed as a concrete business transaction
platform, not merely a visual promotional exhibition. “We want BBTE to
become a business platform that brings the market together with
Indonesian products. With a target of 100 sellers and 200 buyers, BBTE
will become one of the largest tourism B2B events on Java,” said Panca.
To optimally attract the international market, BBTE 2026 will be held
back-to-back with the ITB Asia agenda in Singapore. This schedule scheme
makes it easier for international buyers to continue their business
journey directly to Magelang. Meanwhile, BBTE 2026 Committee Chairman
Sugeng Sugiantro explained that the main focus of the exhibition is to
encourage the creation of business matching and real transactions for
players in the hospitality, MICE, and creative economy industries in
Central Java. “We want buyers to come not only to see Borobudur Temple,
but to conduct business matching, build networking, and open
cooperation. The Borobudur & Beyond concept brings them to see
further the potential of destinations and the creative economy of
Central Java,” explained Sugeng.
",
