Borobudur Hotel reopens<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto inaugurated yesterday the
\nnewly renovated Borobudur Inter-Continental Hotel on Jl. Lapangan
\nBanteng Selatan, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The official reopening of the 674-room, five-star hotel also
\nmarked a return to business after 22 months of renovation which
\ncost US$65 million.<\/p>\n
\"We can promote our hotel as a brand new hotel at a grand old
\naddress,\" Jusuf Indradewa, the president of PT Jakarta
\nInternational Hotels and Development and owner of the hotel,
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The 19-story hotel, located on a 9.3 hectare plot of land, was
\nopened by Soeharto in 1974 and used to accommodate participants
\nin the Pacific Asia Travel Association conference in the same
\nyear.<\/p>\n
During the renovations, 75 percent of the rooms were closed --
\nonly 110 suites in the Garden Wing were available for guests --
\nwhile everything from the air conditioning to water supply was
\noverhauled.<\/p>\n
Other work included the renovation of the hotel's main
\nentrance, the redesign of the restaurants, bar and entertainment
\nfacilities and the improvement of the function rooms and sport
\nfacilities.<\/p>\n
\"With our new and attractive facilities and well trained
\nstaff, we are determined to play a role in the tourism sector,\"
\nJusuf said at the ceremony.<\/p>\n
The hotel offers a wide range of amenities, including eight
\ntennis courts, two squash courts and one basketball court.<\/p>\n
The conference and banqueting rooms can accommodate up to
\n8,000 guests.<\/p>\n
During yesterday's ceremony, the hotel donated Rp 500 million
\nto the national foster parents' movement.<\/p>\n
The money was accepted by the movement's chairperson Halimah
\nBambang Trihatmodjo, Soeharto's daughter-in-law. (prb)<\/p>",
