The government continues to encourage the use of natural gas for\nhousehold needs through the expansion of the domestic gas network\n(jargas) programme, as national gas infrastructure becomes increasingly\ninterconnected. In Gresik and Sidoarjo, the gas network is part of an\neffort to expand public access to safe, reliable, and sustainable\nenergy.<\/p>\n
This initiative was a key focus during a working visit by the Chief\nof Staff to the Presidency, Dudung Abdurcalman, accompanied by the\nDirector of Oil and Gas Infrastructure Planning and Development at the\nMinistry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Agung Kuswardono, and\nPGN\u2019s Director of Infrastructure and Technology, Hery Murahmanta, to the\ngas networks in Gresik and Sidoarjo. The visit also served as\npreparation for the operation of the 2025-2026 state budget-funded gas\nnetworks in the Gresik and Sidoarjo regencies.<\/p>\n
Dudung Abdurachman stated that the visit is part of the Presidential\nStaff Office\u2019s duty to oversee national priority programmes,\nspecifically supporting energy self-sufficiency and reducing dependence\non LPG imports.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe development of the gas network is part of these efforts, in line\nwith the National Priority Work Programme in the 2027 Government Work\nPlan and the designation of urban gas network development as a National\nStrategic Project based on Presidential Regulation Number 12 of 2025,\u201d\nsaid Dudung in a written statement on Monday.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Director of Oil and Gas Infrastructure Planning and\nDevelopment at the Ministry of ESDM, Agung Kuswardono, noted that the\nconstruction of gas networks continues as national gas infrastructure\nbecomes more connected. The connectivity of transmission networks, such\nas the Cirebon-Semarang pipeline, serves as a foundation for expanding\nthe use of domestic natural gas, including for household needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe development of the gas network is also part of the Government\u2019s\nefforts to increase the use of domestic natural gas while reducing\nsubsidies in the State Budget (APBN). The more people connected to the\ngas network, the wider the sustainable development of domestic energy\ncan be,\u201d said Agung.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the 2025-20 Whilst 2026 period, the Government is constructing\napproximately 119,379 household connections (SR) spread across 15\nregencies\/cities. Of that number, specifically in Gresik and Sidoarjo,\napproximately 7,000 connections have been built in each. Starting this\nyear, the government will undertake massive gas network construction,\ntargeting 1 million connections by 2028,\u201d Agung added.<\/p>\n
Hery Murahmanta stated that the government, through the Directorate\nGeneral of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of ESDM, has built gas networks\nusing the State Budget (APBN) for 4,000 connections in Gresik since 2022\nand 29,961 connections in Sidoarjo since 2010, with PGN assigned as the\noperator. PGN\u2019s experience in serving household customers in Gresik and\nSidoarjo is a vital asset in supporting the sustainability of natural\ngas utilisation in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cPGN welcomes the government\u2019s attention and support for the\ndevelopment of gas networks in Gresik, Sidoarjo, and other regions. As a\nPertamina Gas Subholding, PGN continues to support the development and\nmanagement of gas network infrastructure for the household and small\ncustomer segments, particularly for gas networks sourced from the\nGovernment through the APBN scheme. Moving forward, PGN is ready to\nsupport management assignments in accordance with the established roles,\nmechanisms, and regulations,\u201d said Hery Murahmanta.<\/p>\n
PGN possesses extensive experience in the operation and maintenance\nof gas infrastructure, including asset integrity, network safety,\ncustomer management, and gas delivery to the public. Nationally, PGN\nserves over 820,000 household customers.<\/p>\n
In line with the Government\u2019s strategic programme, PGN also continues\nto develop natural gas utilisation through various infrastructure\nschemes, including pipelines and \u2018beyond pipeline\u2019 solutions, such as\nCompressed Natural Gas (CNG), to reach areas and needs that cannot yet\nbe served via pipelines.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the future, the government will continue to expand the use of\nnatural gas through the expansion of the gas network programme.
