Good news for all meeting organizers and planners: the latest
\nedition of the Jakarta Meeting Planner's Guide is now out and it
\nis crammed full of useful information.<\/p>\n
The 216-page guidebook covers a wide range of topics, from
\nmeeting venues to media outlets, government offices and flight
\nschedules.<\/p>\n
\"It is hoped that this book will help all meeting planners,
\neither local or foreign, with various aspects should they want to
\norganize events in the city,\" said Indra Sukirno, the executive
\ndirector of the Jakarta Convention & Exhibition Bureau, the
\nguidebook's publisher.<\/p>\n
Certainly, the book will help the Jakarta administration
\nfulfill its ambition of making the city a center for conventions.<\/p>\n
From the first page all the way through to the last, the book
\nis full of color. It opens with a table of contents, divided into
\nseveral sections including the Jakarta Convention and Exhibition
\nBureau, Indonesia at a Glance, Welcome to Jakarta, Venues,
\nOffices and Accommodations, Convention and Exhibition Support
\nServices, Other Professional Services, Jakarta's Art and Culture
\nScene, Jakarta: Spice of Life, Beyond Jakarta, Important
\nDirectories and Planning Your Activities: Trade Show.<\/p>\n
The information about airlines at the domestic and
\ninternational terminals is quite comprehensive. It also includes
\nthe location of airline offices at Soekarno-Hatta International
\nAirport, the country's main gateway.<\/p>\n
Finding a good master of ceremonies, conference interpreter,
\nprofessional convention organizer, exhibition organizer or stand
\ndesigner are among the challenges faced while planning a
\nconvention. Thanks to this guidebook, planning a convention will
\nbe so much easier because it provides a comprehensive list of
\npeople and companies that provide all the services and equipment
\nneeded for a convention.<\/p>\n
Most businesspeople like to mix work and pleasure when at a
\nconvention, and this guidebook provides a list of golf courses
\nand travel agents that can arrange outings.<\/p>\n
Foreigners can find a brief dictionary of common Indonesian
\nwords on pages 36 and 37. These include numbers, days of the
\nweek, common phrases and time.<\/p>\n
Regarding the information about the media in Jakarta, the
\npublisher should have separated the English-language and
\nIndonesian media, which would have been more useful for foreign
\nexecutives.<\/p>\n
There are also a few corrections that need to be made in the
\nbook. For instance, instead of the People's Advisory Assembly
\n(MPR) it should be the People's Consultative Assembly, which
\nconsists of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional
\nRepresentatives Council (DPD).<\/p>\n
Mahkamah Agung (Supreme Court) and Kejaksaan Agung RI (which
\nshould be translated as Attorney General's Office rather than
\nAttorney General) should be in the Judicial Bodies section
\ninstead of the People's Consultative and Legislative Assembly.
\nThe Cabinet Secretariat is also mistakenly placed in the People's
\nConsultative and Legislative Assembly, while in fact the
\nsecretariat belongs to the Cabinet.<\/p>\n
Despite such defects, the information provided in this 216-
\npage book is very helpful, which makes it a must-buy for all
\nconvention planners.<\/p>",
