Book documents local films<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A book titled Katalog Film Indonesia 1926-1995
\n(Catalog of Indonesian Films 1926-1995) was launched on Saturday
\nin conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Indonesian
\nCinematheque.<\/p>\n
The 426-page book contains the credit titles of 2,261 films,
\nmade between 1926 and August this year. A synopsis is also
\nwritten in the catalog.<\/p>\n
The catalog, the first of its kind, was written by J.B.
\nKristanto, a senior journalist of the Kompas daily, in
\ncooperation with S.M. Ardan, an executive of Indonesian
\nCinematheque; with Harun Suwardi, a lecturer of the Jakarta
\nInstitute of Art, and Haris Jauhari, a journalist of the TPI
\ntelevision station, as contributors.<\/p>\n
A valuable contribution to Indonesian cinematography, the book
\nwas published by PT Grafiasri Mukti, in cooperation with the
\nNational Film Advisory Board, Indonesian Cinematheque and the
\nToyota Foundation.<\/p>\n
\"The catalog has been the dream of Indonesian Cinematheque
\nsince it was established 20 years ago,\" Misbach Y. Biran,
\ndirector of Indonesian Cinematheque, said during the launching
\nceremony, which took place at the modest H. Usmar Ismail Film
\nCenter in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Ignas Kleden, an observer of social and cultural issues,
\npraised the book as a break-through in the documentation of
\nIndonesian films.<\/p>\n
Films, whether they reflect the social reality, are more than
\njust social documentaries because of their artistic values. Films
\nmust become art documentaries as well, he said.<\/p>\n
Among those attending the book launching were film directors
\nAmi Priyono, Wim Umboh and Slamet Rahardjo; film producers
\nBudiarti Abiyogo and Turino Djunaidi; author Emha Ainun Nadjib;
\nand Narto Erawan, director of Film Guidance and Video Recording
