In his address at the Attorney General\u2019s Office on Friday, 10 April\n2026, President Prabowo Subianto issued instructions to four key state\nofficials: TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto; Police Chief General\nListyo Sigit Prabowo; BIN Head Herindra; and Finance Minister Purbaya\nYudhi Sadewa.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis directive is not merely an administrative exhortation but an\noperational order demanding swift and measured responses from all\ndesignated institutions. This step reflects the Prabowo administration\u2019s\nseriousness in closing loopholes in state revenue leakage through\nillegal channels,\u201d Boni Hargens said in a written statement on Monday,\n13 April 2026.<\/p>\n
Boni explained that one important context behind President Prabowo\u2019s\ninstruction is the global geopolitical situation, particularly the\nimpact of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East region.<\/p>\n
This conflict, he said, has created volatility in global energy\ncommodity prices, ultimately exerting significant pressure on\nIndonesia\u2019s balance of payments and energy subsidy budget.<\/p>\n
In such conditions, the smuggling of subsidised fuel oil becomes\nincreasingly dangerous for two main reasons.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst, the price disparity between subsidised fuel and international\nmarket prices is widening, thereby increasing the economic incentives\nfor smugglers. Second, the pressure on the state budget due to rising\nworld oil prices makes every subsidy leakage increasingly costly for the\nnation,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Boni is confident that President Prabowo\u2019s\nspecific directive to the Police Chief as one of the main recipients of\nthe order reflects a high level of trust from the head of state in the\npolice institution.<\/p>\n
He added that this signal is not just a technical assignment but an\nacknowledgement of Polri\u2019s capacity and loyalty as a strategic partner\nof the government.<\/p>\n
According to him, the full trust given by the President to Police\nChief Listyo Sigit forms a strong foundation for operationalising the\nanti-smuggling agenda.<\/p>\n
