Bombs found near Freeport<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A bomb planted under a bridge near the part U.S.-
\nowned Freeport copper and gold mine in Irian Jaya was detonated
\nbut failed to explode on Saturday, the Indonesian Military (TNI)
\nsaid Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The incident is the latest attack on the company after the
\nrecent ambush of two buses carrying teachers and their families.
\nTwo Americans and an Indonesian were killed and 12 others
\nwounded.<\/p>\n
The Army have blamed separatists in Indonesia's most eastern
\nprovince, while others have pointed the finger firmly at the TNI.<\/p>\n
In the latest attack three bombs were found near Tembagapura,
\nthe main base of Freeport Indonesia, a local subsidiary of
\nFreeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc., Papua Military Commander
\nMajor General Mahidin Simbolon said.<\/p>\n
Simbolon said all the materials used for the bombs, including
\nexplosives, detonators, cables, a gas container and batteries,
\nwere believed to have come from the mining company itself.<\/p>\n
"We have handed these over to local police to investigate who
\nwould have access to these explosives because in Freeport such
\nexplosives are very difficult to steal as their use is strictly
\nsupervised," Simbolon said. --AFP<\/p>",
