Bombing suspect retracts statement<\/p>\n
DENPASAR, Bali: A key witness in the trial of Bali bombing
\nsuspect Saad, who is charged with harboring and assisting a
\nwanted terrorist suspect, withdraw on Monday the statement he had
\nmade during police interrogation, claiming that he been forced to
\nmake it.<\/p>\n
\"I retract my entire statement. I made a confession because
\nthe police forced me to do so. So, please stop asking me about
\nthose things,\" Hernianto told the court in his testimony.<\/p>\n
Hernianto was sentenced to 12 years in prison after the court
\nfound him guilty of aiding and abetting terrorists by allowing
\nterrorist suspects to hold a meeting to plot the Bali bombings at
\nhis home in the Central Java town of Surakarta.<\/p>\n
Previously, prosecutor Eka Swara had repeatedly quoted
\nHernianto's statement, which incriminated Saad in the bombings,
\nwhich killed 202 people in October last year.<\/p>\n
Hernianto stated he had known Saad long before
\nthe bomb attacks and provided shelter for the defendant in his
\nhouse.<\/p>\n
On Monday, Hernianto insisted that he had never met the
\ndefendant until the two were transferred to Denpasar's Kerobokan
