Bombing indictments submitted<\/p>\n

The Bali Prosecutors Office submitted the indictments of nine
\nmore Bali bombing suspects to the Denpasar District Court on
\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
Bali Prosecutors Office spokesperson M Salim said the
\nindictments were for the group of suspects known as the Surakarta
\ngroup, namely Ali Gufron (alias Muklas), Hernianto, Herlambang,
\nMusyafak, Makmuri, Muhamad Najib Nawawi, Masykur Abdul Kadir,
\nBambang Setiono and Ahmad Budi Wibowo.<\/p>\n
Ali Gufron is being charged under antiterrorism laws with
\nplotting and organizing the terror attacks that claimed 202 lives
\non Oct. 12 last year.<\/p>\n
His charge is similar to his brother Amrozi and the alleged
\nmastermind of the bombings, Imam Samudra.<\/p>\n
Hernianto is charged with conspiring to commit terrorism or
\nfacilitating the act of terrorism.<\/p>\n
The other seven suspects were charged with assisting or
\nharboring terrorists and withholding information on terror
\nattacks.<\/p>\n
If convicted, Ali and Hernianto will face the possible death
\npenalty while the others face a maximum 15 years in prison.<\/p>\n
The prosecutors' office has now filed 15 indictments on the
\nbombings.<\/p>\n
Salim said the last 14 indictments would be submitted by mid
\nJune.<\/p>\n
The prosecutors also handed over evidence, including an FN
\npistol, eight bullets, a black waist bag, Rp 5.9 million (US$720)
\nof bank notes and 10 VCDs containing scenes of Ambon's violent
\nconflict and a sermon from Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, the alleged
\nspiritual leader of the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network.<\/p>\n
A total of 50 items would be presented in court, Salim said.<\/p>\n
Denpasar District Court head I Made Karna said the court would
\nimmediately arrange the trial schedules for the nine new
\ndefendants. The trials of Samudra and Amrozi are already
\nunderway.<\/p>\n
\"We are still waiting for the arrival of six additional
\njudges. The number of judges that we currently have is inadequate
\nto cope with the growing number of bombing-related cases and
\ndefendants,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in Makassar, the South Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office
\nsubmitted seven indictments for suspects in the Makassar bomb
\nattack to the Makassar District Court on Tuesday. So far 13
\nindictments have been completed.<\/p>\n
The indictments were for suspects Hamid Abdul Razzaq, Imal
\nHamid, Suryadi Mas'ud, Kaharuddin Mustafa, Muchtar Daeng Lau,
\nLukman Husain and Uman Nur Affan.<\/p>\n
The prosecutors also handed over three plastic bags of TNT
\nfound at the house of Hamid Abdul Razzaq, the father of main
\nsuspect Agung Abdul Hamid who is still at large, documents on the
\nplanning of the Makassar, saving accounts and clothes.<\/p>\n
Court chief Andi Haedar said the trial of the seven suspects
\nwould begin on June 13.<\/p>\n
Six other suspects, namely Haerul, Muhammad Tang (alias
\nItang), Anton, Ilham Riyadi, Masnur and Suriadi will stand trial
\nnext Monday.<\/p>\n
The 13 suspects are charged under antiterrorism laws with
\nplanning and organizing the bombings of a McDonald's outlet and a
\ncar dealership owned by Coordinating Minister for People's
\nWelfare Jusuf Kalla on Dec. 5 last year. Three people were killed
\nand 11 injured in the blasts.<\/p>",
