Bolkiah first leader to arrive<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Brunei leader Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah flew in
\naboard his private plane yesterday to become the first head of
\ngovernment to attend next week's APEC Economic Leaders Meeting
\n(AELM) in nearby Bogor.<\/p>\n
Also on board was his younger brother Prince Mohamed Bolkiah,
\nwho is Brunei's foreign minister, to attend the APEC ministerial
\nmeeting which opens today.<\/p>\n
Sultan Bolkiah, king of the tiny oil rich sultanate, is no
\nstranger to Indonesia, where he has extensive investments.<\/p>\n
He was greeted by Minister of Defense Edi Sudradjat at the
\nHalim Perdanakusuma airport and later driven in a limousine,
\nbearing the plate number AELM 2, to the Grand Hyatt Hotel.<\/p>\n
Most other APEC leaders will arrive on Sunday, although the
\nBogor meeting is not scheduled until Tuesday. However, Japanese
\nand South Korean leaders are scheduled to arrive tomorrow.<\/p>\n
The leaders will be staying in eight different hotels in
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
A number of the APEC leaders, including U.S. President Bill
\nClinton and South Korean President Kim Young-Sam, are combining
\ntheir APEC attendance with a state visit to Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The various APEC leaders will also be holding bilateral
\nmeetings on Monday, the eve of the Bogor talks. (als)<\/p>",
