        "content": "<p>Bolkiah a candidate for IBF presidency<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei is one of<br>\nthree candidates vying to become president of the International<br>\nBadminton Federation (IBF).<\/p>\n<p>The other two candidates are current IBF vice president<br>\nJustian Suhandinata of Indonesia and Asian Badminton<br>\nConfederation chairman Korn Dabbaransi of Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>No European badminton officials were named as candidates, with<br>\nthe nominations closing on Feb. 2, according to an IBF press<br>\nrelease.<\/p>\n<p>The election will take place on June 3 during the IBF&apos;s annual<br>\ngeneral meeting in Seville, Spain, which is being held in<br>\nconjunction with the World Championships. This is the first time<br>\nin the history of the federation that the presidency has been<br>\ncontested.<\/p>\n<p>The new president, who will replace current president and<br>\nInternational Olympics Committee member Lu Shengrong of China,<br>\nwill be voted on by the 141 full-member associations of the IBF.<\/p>\n<p>Should Justian be elected IBF president, he will be the third<br>\nIndonesian to hold that post, following Ferry Sonneville and<br>\nSudirman, whose name graces the biennial mixed team event.<\/p>\n<p>Two people -- Jeff Robson and Punch Gunalan -- have been named<br>\nas candidates for vice president.<\/p>\n<p>Raj Gaya of Mauritius, Kim Hak-suk of South Korea, Mya Lay<br>\nSein of Myanmar, Paisan Rangsikitpho of the United States,<br>\nMartijn van Dooremalen of the Netherlands, Joseph Clarke of<br>\nJamaica and Jean Brunet of France are the nominees for council<br>\nrepresentatives.<\/p>\n<p>Torsten Berg of Denmark is the sole candidate to become the<br>\nEuropean continental representative, while Cedric Baxter is the<br>\ncandidate to become the Oceania representative.
