JAKARTA: The city transportation agency arrested a 34-year-old
\nwoman who pretended to be a traffic and land transport officer at
\nGrogol bus terminal, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Head of Grogol bus terminal Ahmad Rustam Effendi arrested Eti
\nKusmiati, the bogus officer, when she talked with an employee of
\na bus operator at the terminal.<\/p>\n
Eti admitted that she had worn the traffic officer uniform for
\ntwo months, but claimed she had done it because she liked the
\nuniform.<\/p>\n
But her statement raised doubts, as she could have abused the
\nuniform for financial benefit.<\/p>\n
Traffic and land transportation officers are authorized to
\nmonitor the performance of public transport operators. There are
\nmany reports about such officers, who often illegally demand
\npayment from public vehicle operators deemed to have violated
\nregulations, such as using unauthorized roads.<\/p>\n
Eti was handed over to Gambir police station for further legal
\nprocessing.<\/p>\n
The mother of one child holds an identity card issued by
\nPetojo subdistrict in Central Jakarta, but lives in Tambun

TANGERANG: Some 500 ojek or motorcycle taxi drivers have
\nplanned to stage a rally in protest of the decision by PT Angkasa
\nPura, the Sukarno-Hatta International Airport management, to
\nclose the M1 Gate on a secondary road that links Tangerang city
\nto the airport, beginning May 21 for security reasons.<\/p>\n
\"We (ojek drivers) are small people who earn our daily bread
\nat the airport to support our families. But if the management
\ncloses the M1 gate to us, we'll no longer have access the
\nairport,\" Sarmili, one of the drivers told The Jakarta Post on
\nMonday.<\/p>\n
He said that he could see no reason for the closure because it
\nwas an alternative route to the airport and it helped ease
\ntraffic congestion along Jl. Daan Mogot heading to the airport.<\/p>\n
\"Angkasa Pura also receives additional income because every
\ncar that passes through the gate must pay Rp 2,000,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the ojek drivers' threat to stage the rally,
\nairport police chief Adj. Comr. Sri Suari Wahyudi said that they
\ncould only stage a rally as long as they held it legally.<\/p>\n
However, she warned that airport was a restricted area for
\nany demonstrations and if ojek drivers staged a rally at the
\nairport, the police would take stern measures. \"The presence of
\nojek drivers at airport terminals I, II and III had added to
\npublic disorder,\" she said.--JP<\/p>",
