Bogus journalist nabbed for theft<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A suspected thief posing as a journalist was arrested
\nby police on Sunday after being caught red-handed trying to steal
\na motorcycle belonging to Amin, an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver
\nat Tanjung Priok bus terminal.<\/p>\n
The suspect, Rustam Amir, was trying to turn on the ignition
\nof a motorcycle parked near the terminal with his skeleton key
\nwhen Amin and some other ojek drivers caught him.<\/p>\n
Rustam was then turned over to the Tanjung Priok Police
\nsubprecinct.<\/p>\n
Rustam first told police investigators he was a journalist. He
\nshowed his press card stating that he was a journalist with
\nPembaharu magazine.<\/p>\n
He admitted later, however, that he was not a journalist and
\nthat he had ordered the press ID card from a man, named Sam, for
\nRp 50,000 (US$5.9).<\/p>\n
"I haven't written any stories yet," he was quoted as saying
\nby SCTV.<\/p>\n
When asked, the resident of Plumpang Dua, Rawa Badak, North
\nJakarta, said that he was not trying to steal the motorcycle.<\/p>\n
"I just wanted to match my key with the motorcycle because
\nmine was lost several months ago," he claimed. --JP<\/p>\n

JAKARTA: Water at the city's sluice gates remained at safe
\nlevels on Sunday despite the heavy rain that has started to fall
\nin Jakarta and the upstream areas of Bogor, Depok and Cianjur in
\nWest Java.<\/p>\n
Mimpri Mashuri, a sluice gatekeeper at Manggarai, South
\nJakarta, said the water level stood at 680 centimeters, far below
\nthe normal level of 800 centimeters.<\/p>\n
He said the level in Manggarai depended on the level of the
\nCiliwung river flowing from Depok.<\/p>\n
Depok sluice gatekeeper Marsan said that as of Sunday morning,
\nthe stream stood at 105 centimeters.<\/p>\n
"It is still normal," he said, adding that Jakarta would be
\nflooded if the water level in the sluice gates reached 200
\ncentimeters.<\/p>\n
In the worst flood in February 2001, the water level at the
\nDepok sluice gate reached 310 centimeters. In Manggarai it
