Bogus doctor confirmed ill<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: An examination by state-owned Sardjito Hospital
\nexperts has shown that Djarot Setiawan -- who forged his degrees
\nfrom undergraduate to doctorate and taught in a respected
\nuniversity for five years -- is suffering from schizophrenia.<\/p>\n
\"Sometimes he feels and acts like he is a rector and suddenly
\nchanges (and behaves) as if he were a student,\" psychiatrist
\nSoewardi explained about the fake academic's condition.<\/p>\n
Djarot, 35, worked as a lecturer for five years at the state-
\nrun Jenderal Soedirman University in Purwokerto, Central Java,
\nbefore his secret was uncovered accidentally last month.<\/p>\n
Rector Rubiyanto Misman said Djarot was a popular lecturer,
\nand often represented the university at national conferences.<\/p>\n
\"We never thought or suspected that Djarot was a fake doctor,\"
\nhe said last month.<\/p>\n
Djarot apparently cleverly forged his documents and was
\nimmediately accepted for a teaching position in 1993. Because of
\nhis high credentials he was also quickly accorded a civil service
\ngrade of IVB.<\/p>\n
\"I followed all procedures to be received as an academic staff
\nmember there,\" Djarot said yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"I do now know why the students trusted me so much,\" he added.
