        "content": "<p>Bogus antimalarials sold in Cambodia<\/p>\n<p>PHNOM PENH (AP): Bogus malaria medication is being sold in<br>\nCambodia, threatening many of the 80,000 infected people here,<br>\nhealth officials warned on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Low-priced versions of antimalarial medicines Mefloquine and<br>\nArtesunate were recently found to be fakes packaged in bottles<br>\nnearly indistinguishable from those used for the real medicine,<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Health officials estimate that 0.7 percent of Cambodians,<br>\nabout 80,000, are infected with malaria, which is passed to<br>\nhumans by mosquitoes.<\/p>\n<p>While deadly, malaria is easily cured if quickly and properly<br>\ntreated. About 5,000 Cambodians still die annually from the<br>\ndisease, indicative of the county's poor health care and extreme<br>\npoverty, especially in rural areas where malarial mosquitoes<br>\nthrive.<\/p>",
