Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto has revealed the origin of the fire that
triggered the blaze at the Galuga landfill in Cibungbulang District.
According to him, the fire was sparked on farmland across from the
landfill area, not from the active waste piles.

“It did not start at the waste disposal site, but in a field or
agricultural area located directly next to the Galuga landfill,” said
Rudy via the Instagram account @kabupaten.bogor on Tuesday
(8/9/2026).

He said the fire emerged from that farmland before spreading to
several old waste disposal areas within the Galuga landfill.

“The waste that appears to be burning is located at disposal sites
that are no longer used by either the Bogor Regency Government or the
Bogor City Government,” he explained.

Based on the latest observations at midday, the burned area covered
five hectares. He also stated that four hotspots were still being
extinguished.

“There are currently four hotspots still alight, which remain the
focus of firefighting efforts. The wind is moving eastwards, so this is
also a concern for personnel. To anticipate the spread of the fire,
three backhoe units have been deployed to dig trenches along the green
line designated as a protective barrier,” he said.

Residents Asked to Evacuate

Earlier, Bogor Deputy Regent Ade Ruhandi (Jaro Ade) called for
residents and waste pickers in the Galuga landfill area to be
temporarily evacuated. This was necessary following the fire at the
landfill, which had been burning since the previous night.

“But what must be prioritised, after the safety of the public, is the
safety of residents, because there are also many waste pickers who need
to be combed out of the area,” Jaro Ade told reporters.

The previous night, he had still seen several waste pickers at their
tents. Jaro Ade said the waste pickers needed to be swept from the area
and evacuated so they would not be endangered.

“Officers must really clear the area completely. They should return
home for now, and houses close to the site should be emptied as quickly
as possible,” he said.

Jaro Ade also observed many residents watching the firefighting
operation. According to him, this somewhat hampered the work of fire
brigade personnel.

“Many residents were watching, so some access routes for fire brigade
officers to reach the location were obstructed by the many motorcycles
parked by people watching the fire. This needs to be communicated to the
public,” he said.
",
