Bogor police chief replaced over graft<\/p>\n

The National Police announced on Tuesday that they had fired the
\nBogor police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Agung Kurnia Sutisna due to
\nalleged graft in the city's traffic police division.<\/p>\n
National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Aryanto Boedihardjo said
\nthat the dismissal was related to several Bogor police officers
\nwho were taking bribes in the licensing and documentation office.<\/p>\n
The officers requested money from people who wished to make or
\nrenew their driver's licenses and vehicle registration documents
\n(STNK) over and above the regular fee.<\/p>\n
\"We heard complaints from the public about such practices in
\nthe licensing and documentation office and after further
\ninvestigation, we found that the Bogor police chief was
\ntolerating it,\" Aryanto said.<\/p>\n
Four police officers working in the licensing and
\ndocumentation office were arrested earlier by investigators from
\nthe national police headquarters for offering a motorcycle
\nlicense for Rp 185,000 (US$19.47), much higher than the normal
\nfee of Rp 75,000.<\/p>\n
Agung was replaced by Adj. Sr. Comr Kamil Razak, who used to
\nbe Soreang police chief, also in West Java. Kamil was inaugurated
\non Monday in a quick ceremony.<\/p>\n
Aryanto said that National Police chief Gen. Sutanto had
\nissued orders to conduct similar investigations in other cities
\nin a bid to improve police performance in the eyes of the public.<\/p>\n
\"We encourage the public to tell us if there are any
\ncomplaints about police services so that we can improve
\nourselves,\" Aryanto said.<\/p>",
