Komandjaja, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The National Police announced on Tuesday that they had fired the<br>\nBogor police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Agung Kurnia Sutisna due to<br>\nalleged graft in the city's traffic police division.<\/p>\n<p>National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Aryanto Boedihardjo said<br>\nthat the dismissal was related to several Bogor police officers<br>\nwho were taking bribes in the licensing and documentation office.<\/p>\n<p>The officers requested money from people who wished to make or<br>\nrenew their driver's licenses and vehicle registration documents<br>\n(STNK) over and above the regular fee.<\/p>\n<p>\"We heard complaints from the public about such practices in<br>\nthe licensing and documentation office and after further<br>\ninvestigation, we found that the Bogor police chief was<br>\ntolerating it,\" Aryanto said.<\/p>\n<p>Four police officers working in the licensing and<br>\ndocumentation office were arrested earlier by investigators from<br>\nthe national police headquarters for offering a motorcycle<br>\nlicense for Rp 185,000 (US$19.47), much higher than the normal<br>\nfee of Rp 75,000.<\/p>\n<p>Agung was replaced by Adj. Sr. Comr Kamil Razak, who used to<br>\nbe Soreang police chief, also in West Java. Kamil was inaugurated<br>\non Monday in a quick ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Aryanto said that National Police chief Gen. Sutanto had<br>\nissued orders to conduct similar investigations in other cities<br>\nin a bid to improve police performance in the eyes of the public.<\/p>\n<p>\"We encourage the public to tell us if there are any<br>\ncomplaints about police services so that we can improve<br>\nourselves,\" Aryanto said.<\/p>",
